Sun Dance
Ritual (Aboriginal)
For many tribes of the plains states, the Sun Dance was a major
communal religious ceremony lasting four days and involving
sacrifice and supplication to insure harmony between all living
beings. |

Green Corn
Ceremony (Aboriginal)
Performed by some Oklahoma tribes as a time of renewal. The
ritual involves sweat lodge ceremonies, dances, offerings, and
fasting. |

August |
Hopi Snake
Dance (Aboriginal)
Requires two weeks of ritual preparation, snakes are gathered
and kept watch over by children. The dancers take an emetic and
dance with the snakes in their mouths with an Antelope Priest in
attendance.
After the dance, the snakes are released to carry their prayers. |

Native Wild
Rice Harvest (Aboriginal)
Northern Cree, Ojibwa and other Algonkian tribes of southern
Canada, Montana and the northern plains states. Celebrated
during the last full moon in August. |
