Corporations and foundations provide additional support for
performances of 'African-American Heroes' and other World Arts projects.
Thanks to the generous support of our partners, the compelling magic
of live theater is becoming more available as an educational vehicle
for students and audiences of all ages in our schools and
communities centers.
These exciting and educational productions
are opening eyes to the inspiring-but-often-forgotten lessons of history.
Received everywhere with raves, history truly comes alive for pupil,
principal and parent alike. More sponsors are needed to bring these
performances to the widest possible audience.
The Next Steps.
Corporations and foundations have begun to provide additional support for
'African-American Heroes' and other World Arts projects, and more are needed to reach the
widest possible audience.
As "Heroes" evolves, we are soliciting sponsors to
underwrite the development of additional characters for the show, as well as
a second act to further highlight women as African-American heroines. For
example, a hospital or pharmaceutical company might like to sponsor the
development of a segment on Dr. Benjamin Carson, the well known
neurosurgeon. A large local business or utility company, with a huge
presence in the community, might like to underwrite the development of a
sister show based on Latina heroines. With the magic of live theater,
the possibilities for corporate "give-back" to, and responsible involvement
with, the community are endless.

Sponsorship is also needed to provide programs at selected low-income area
schools, community centers and agencies. We have a long list of schools and
agencies that have requested performances, but do not have the ability to
pay the fee, which we now must charge.
World Arts is itself one of the
major sponsors and, since the first
performance in January 2004, our team has regularly donated free and reduced-fee shows
to inner city schools, homeless centers, and social service agencies, such
as Childnet, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and other centers that serve children,
including the Young-at-Art Children’s Museum.

Some
of the heroes being considered for later or expanded productions of the show
are:
-
Jackie Robinson,
outstanding baseball player who broke the color barrier
-
Ralph Bunche, United
Nations statesman
-
Thurgood Marshall,
Justice of the Supreme Court
-
Dr. Charles Drew,
surgeon, researcher and inventor of blood plasma
-
Louis Armstrong,
world renowned jazz musician and performer
-
Mathew Henson, North
Pole explorer
-
Chrispus Attucks,
U.S. Revolutionary War hero
We
also have the capability to adapt the show to include selected Caribbean
heroes such as the Haitian military and political leader Toussaint
L'Overture.
We
are actively seeking sponsors for a sister show on African-American or
Latina Heroines.
Your organization may have a pet project in mind that
would be ideal for theatrical staging. We have the production team and
the talent to develop new ideas and the contacts to introduce new
educational productions where they count the most
— in our schools and
communities.
World Arts would welcome and appreciate your ideas, suggestions any
guidance or support you or your
organization can provide. Please contact us to discuss the
possibilities.
